What I’m reading now

Updated: Jan 26, 2019

Young adult fiction for a not-so-young adult.

I waited to write this post until I was reading something that will take me a while. That way, this post will be up-to-date for a greater length of time (yes, lazy I know!).

So, what am I reading at the moment? I've taken a dive into a slightly vintage world, a length series of books (43 in total) that are set in the 60s, when it might be argued, it was a simpler time.

The series I'm referring to is:

Alfred Hitchcock and The Three Investigators

By Robert Arden (among others)

Synopsis: Jupiter Jones, Pete Crenshaw and Bob Andrews are three teenagers living in the fictional town of Rocky Beach, California, some miles from Hollywood. Having a certain affinity for solving puzzles, riddles and other such enigma, they decide to form the junior detective firm, 'The Three Investigators'. Their headquarters is a damaged mobile home, hidden in the Jones' Salvage Yard, Jupiter's family business.

By making themselves acquainted with Alfred Hitchcock, the famed film director/producer, the investigators are introduced to a whide variety of cases, all of which start out as supernatural and unexplained phenomina. For example, the first title in this series is called 'The Secret of Terror Castle'.

These books are written for juveniles, perhaps between the ages of 10 and 13. However, I find myself enjoying their quaint, vintage nature and the very real characters of the boys. I like soft-hearted mysteries as a rule (one of my all-time favourite TV shows is Scooby Doo) and these books fit the bill. An easy read (I can finish one book in about an hour), they are a great way to keep occupied on a rainy day without taxing the brain too much. Although I am still missing about 8 books from the series, I intend to read through all the ones I have from start to finish. Won't you join me?

Happy reading!

K:)
