What made you decide to become a writer?
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved imagining things and making up my own stories. The first story I can remember writing was when I was about 4 years old. It was a story about a tiger who was sad and lonely in a pet shop, but then a little girl came and adopted him and they were happy. My first ever dream was to become a writer so that I can share my stories with other people. This was my dream when I was 4 years old, and it is still my dream now, over 25 years later!
Was there a special teacher or person who inspired you or encouraged you to write?

My mum, Fiona, always encouraged me to follow my own dreams and passions. She enrolled me in a correspondence writing course when I was a teenager, and she always believed that I would achieve my dream. Her encouragement has been one of the biggest influences in my life that has led me to continue pursuing writing.
What is a typical writing day for you?
I’m a full time primary teacher, so a lot of my writing is done on the weekends. I like to sleep in late on a Saturday and then make a cup of tea and sit in my favourite reading and writing chair. I read lots to give me inspiration, and then I have special notebooks that I write my stories down in. I’m most inspired to write when it’s bad weather outside and when I have nothing else on that day. I might write only a few sentences or I might write several pages, depending on the day. Sometimes, I’ll read out a paragraph to my fiancée, Manu, to see if it makes sense or sounds like it fits with the rest of the story.
What do you enjoy most about writing?
I love that I can think or imagine something in my head and then make it come to life on paper. My favourite moment during writing is when I realise that my characters have become like real people to me. They say or do things that I might never have thought of because it’s like they have minds of their own!
