Lost in the library: what to read next?

Updated: Jan 13, 2019

More 'go tos' for those rainy days, sunny days or just plain days.

Welcome back, readers. To spare you all the waffle, I shall get straight to the point of this post:

My next 'go to' on the list is the following series:

The Lockwood & Co series by Jonathan Stroud

Titles in the series include:

The Screaming Staircase

The Whispering Skull

The Hollow Boy

The Creeping Shadow

The Empty Grave

and a short novella titled The Dagger in the Desk (only available as an e-book)

Synopsis:

Set in, you guessed it, London, these books depict a world in present day that is both the same and different to ours. A pandemic of ghosts has spread across the United Kingdom. 'Visitors' are constantly returning to our side to haunt, horrify and occasionally help the living. The trouble is, only kids below the ages of about eighteen can see these things. The bigger trouble is that these ghosts are deadly. Any sort of contact with them and you are the victim of 'ghost touch' - fatal without an immediate shot of adrenalin, and sometimes even this won't bring someone back. Consequently, ghost hunting agencies have been set up all over the country to combat these visitors. And since only kids can see them, only kids can fight them...

The series follows Lucy Carlyle, a young psychic investigator with particularly strong psychic skills. She is employed by the enigmatic Anthony Lockwood, who operates out of his home in London, along with his trusy second in command, George Cubbins. Lockwood & Co is a different kind of agency, mostly due to the fact that there are no adult supervisors.

Together, Lucy, Lockwood and George take on many different cases and solve a couple of mysteries along the way regarding the whole ghost pandemic in general.

You may be starting to get a feel for the types of books I enjoy. Rest assured, I do immerse myself in the occasional romance or drama. However, this is a list of my 'go tos' after all.

Lockwood and Co is another series that just seems to cheer me up, no matter what mood I'm in. Even if I'm already happy, the books cheer me up even more. Again, this could seem a strange genre to do this for me, but please read and find out for yourself! If it's not your cup of tea, there are plenty of others on my lists to come.

Happy reading!

K :)
